Dr. Md. Zahurul Hossain is a pharmaceutical professional who has 28 years of experience in Quality Operations at different pharmaceutical industries across Bangladesh. Prior to his joining as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy of State University of Bangladesh, he was the General Manager of Quality Operations at Acme Laboratories Limited. He obtained first class in B.Sc Honors examination in Bio-Chemistry and also secured first position within the first class in M.Sc. examination (Thesis Group) in Bio-Chemistry at the University of Dhaka. He was awarded INST fellowship by the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh Government to carryout research on renewable bio mass by using microbial enzymes under the supervision of Dr. Showkat Ali, Associate Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry, Dhaka University in 1990.
He started his pharmaceutical career with the then Pfizer Bangladesh Ltd as a Microbiological Analyst. After that he moved to Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission as a scientific officer under the Institute of Food and Radiation Biology, and engaged in pesticide residues (Pesticides and their residues those are harmful to human health) analysis in Food and Environment under TC project of IAEA (International Atomic Energy Commission).
He participated as a trainee in a course entitled “Sterilization of Medical Products by Radiation” organized by Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.
He was awarded Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship by the Ministry of Science and Technology Japan, to pursue higher studies leading to Ph.D. He then completed his Ph.D. degree on Enzyme Technology (Isolation, Purification, and Kinetic studies on different Mannooligosaccharides produced by Hem-Cellulosic enzyme β-mannanase from Bacillus sp.) from Kagoshima University located in Japan.
Presented a research paper in a seminar entitled “Applied Glycoscience” held in Nagasaki, Japan as part of the requirements of his Ph.D. dissertation.
He participated and successfully completed a training course on Good Manufacturing Practices and Dossier Preparation of 1st line tuberculosis medicines in relation to the acceptable quality and site pre-qualification of antituberculosis Drugs manufacturing held in Kualalumpur, Malaysia organized by the World Health Organization.
He had participated in the Advanced Regulatory Inspection workshop on the Risk Management for Vaccines organized by the Directorate General of Drug Administration, Bangladesh in collaboration with the World Health Organization conducted by WHO expert on regulatory requirements for Vaccine production.
With regards to his career, he had worked for Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Renata Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. under the Department of Quality Control and Quality Assurance. While carrying out his duties, he faced regulatory audits related to implementation of cGMP in pharmaceutical operations namely, WHO pre-qualification, South Africa Drug Authority, UK MHRA ( Medicines and HealthCare Products Regulatory Agency ), US FDA (US Food and Drug Administration, TGA(Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia) , UNICEF, SAVE the Children, Malaysia Drug Regulatory Authority, Sri Lanka Drug Regulatory Authority, Ethiopian Drug Regulatory Authority , Tanzania Drug Regulatory authority, and also Drug Regulatory of Uganda, Keniya, Sudan,)
