Md. Shamsul Islam

Md. Shamsul Islam is a writer, columnist, teacher, and media consultant. He is an Associate Professor and the Chairman of the State University of Bangladesh's Department of Journalism, Communication, and Media Studies (SUB). He began his career as an Editorial Assistant at the Dhaka Courier, but later joined the government service and worked as a researcher at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), a think tank affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. He began his teaching career as an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Dhaka's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. He also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) while on leave from the government. He left his government job in 2005 to teach at various private universities in Bangladesh. He previously worked as an Associate Professor and Acting Head at Stamford University Bangladesh, as well as at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Central Women's University. Md. Shamsul Islam earned his BA (Hons) and MA (First Class First) from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka. Additionally, after being awarded a Chevening Scholarship, he completed his second Master's degree in International Communications at the University of Leeds in the UK. He attended the University of Oxford as a visiting fellow and the University of Cambridge for a post-graduate training. He presented papers at numerous domestic and international conferences. He has written extensively for various media outlets and published research articles and book chapters.
